The U.S. Equestrian Team selected the following riders and horses to represent the United States in the 2000 WEC:

Darolyn Butler-Dial of Humble Texas on DJB Albanet,
Karen Binns DiCamillo of Las Cruces, New Mexico on Sr Sharee,
Marcia Smith, DVM of Loomis, California on Saamson CC,
Rita Swift of Worthington, West Virginia on Just Cass,
Stephanie Teeter of Princeton, Idaho on Nature's Kruschev, and
Darla Westlake of Dexter, Oregon on MC Rams Z.
In addition, reigning World Champion Valerie Kanavy of Fort Valley, Virginia exercised her option to defend her title and will compete as an individual on a horse of her choosing.

Jennifer Nice of Orange, California, on Al Baraaq replaced Karen Binns DiCamillo, who withdrew for veterinary reasons

Connie Walker was added to the U.S. squad on July 31st, replacing Jennifer Nice, who also withdrew for veterinary reasons, becoming the first USA East rider named to the Squad.

These changes left four horse-and-rider combinations as alternates:

Patti Pizzo of Jamison, Pennsylvania on Savaq,
Melissa Crain of Franklin, Tennessee on Charbiel,
Jan Worthington of Scales Mound, Illinois on GMF Musca Song and
Jazon Wonders of Peteluma, California on Milarepa.

The final changes to the U.S. Squad occurred shortly before the race, when Darla Westlake broke a collarbone during training and had to withdraw.  She was replaced by Jan Worthington on the day before the ride.  This also resulted in some changes in horse/rider combinations.   Final Results:
